The Garden Curator, Professional Garden Services

About

I'm Mark, and I'm a plantsman.

RHS Level 3 qualified, PA1 and PA6 certified, and happiest with my hands in a border.

Plants have been the constant in my working life. I trained in horticulture to RHS Level 3, I hold my PA1 and PA6 certificates for applying treatments safely and legally, and over the years I've designed, built and planted gardens, some of them large and ambitious.

Every border and garden photographed on this website is my own design work, and gardens I've gone on to maintain. Nothing here is stock photography.

Why The Garden Curator exists

I started this business because of something I saw again and again: gardens being "maintained" by people who didn't know what they were cutting. Flowering shrubs sheared into tight blobs that never flower. Conifer hedges cut back into brown wood that will never green up. Borders weeded of their best self-sown seedlings and scalped bare every autumn.

There are plenty of hard-working gardening services out there. There are far fewer trained horticulturists. I wanted to offer the everyday work, the lawns, hedges and clear-ups, with the same knowledge I'd bring to a planting design.

Why “curator”

A curator looks after a collection. They know every piece in it, and they decide what stays, what goes and what comes next. That's how I think about a garden. It's never finished, and the job is to keep it moving in the right direction, season by season.
